Buyers should request AC4C evidence that identifies the exact material designation, governing specification, lot or melt identity when required, chemistry record, delivered condition, casting route, and the relationship between the material record and the supplied parts. The evidence should be proportionate to the component's risk. A simple cover may need a controlled material and lot record, while a housing with machined sealing faces, pressure passages, or load-bearing bosses may need additional part and process validation.
A certificate alone does not prove that the casting is dimensionally correct, internally sound, machinable, or suitable after coating. Material evidence should be connected to the finished-part requirements and the AC4C service route being used for the project.
Write the exact designation and source specification in the drawing or purchase order. State whether AC4C is a formal standard, a regional designation, or an internal code. If a supplier uses a related A413 description, request the comparison basis before accepting it. Confirm the chemical limits, product form, condition, and applicable test requirements from the controlling document.
Do not allow “AC4C equivalent” to replace the material callout without review. A similar designation may be intended for another casting route or may carry a different acceptance basis. The supplier should state the material source, the record supplied with the lot, and the process assumptions that depend on the selected grade.
Lot identity is what makes the material record useful. The buyer should be able to connect the certificate or chemistry result to the castings, production date, melt or charge identity where required, and the tool or machine route. Define how labels, travelers, packing lists, and inspection reports carry that identity. Avoid mixing parts made under different material records without a documented rule.
If a material or melt record is unavailable, the supplier should explain the limitation and propose the evidence that can still be provided. Do not invent a replacement certificate after the fact. A controlled deviation should state what is missing, why it is missing, the affected parts, and the approval authority.
For AC4C castings, pair material records with part evidence. Check critical dimensions, as-cast and machined surfaces, flash, distortion, and the features that can expose internal discontinuities. For a pressure or sealing feature, define the completed machining state and the applicable leak or pressure check. For a bearing seat or mounting interface, inspect position, flatness, and fit. For a cosmetic face, approve the finish on the actual geometry.
Process evidence should cover the variables that the project has identified as relevant: tool revision, gate and vent changes, cooling or ejection changes, trim, machining fixture, and surface preparation. The purpose is not to request every internal machine setting. It is to preserve the information needed to understand a change in part quality and to repeat the approved route.

List the required material certificate or chemistry record, lot identification, first-article evidence, inspection report, deviation process, and retention or submission expectations. State the condition in which the buyer wants evidence: raw casting, trimmed part, machined part, coated part, or assembled component. This avoids a situation where a supplier provides a material document while the buyer expected proof of the delivered interface.
Ask the supplier to identify any record that can only be created after tool tryout or production. For example, internal-quality or machining evidence may depend on the real geometry. Agree the sample and acceptance plan before the first trial, not after a defect appears.
The material record is one link in the AC4C approval chain. Buyers should connect it to the casting lot, tool and process revision, machining state, surface condition, inspection, and change control. That chain makes an AC4C purchase auditable and gives the engineering team a defensible basis for accepting an alternate material or a repeat order.
