A painted production lot should be approved with linked checks for color, gloss or texture, dry-film thickness, cure, adhesion, visual defects, masked interfaces, final dimensions and packaging protection. The checks must use the approved drawing, paint system, master sample, methods and cure state. A color pass alone does not establish a usable finished part.
Compare critical cosmetic zones under defined lighting, viewing distance, angle and background. Curved surfaces reflect differently from flat panels, so use representative parts or geometry. Instrumental color and gloss measurements can add repeatability when limits and locations are agreed.
Retain an approved physical master under controlled storage and replacement rules. Digital photographs are useful records but cannot reliably establish exact color because camera, monitor and lighting shift it.

Use the method and conditioning defined by the product or paint specification. Adhesion tests are often destructive, so establish sample parts or allowed locations. Witness panels can monitor process, but representative castings should be included during qualification because roughness, porosity, recesses and cure differ.
Record where failure occurs: at aluminum/pretreatment, within primer, at primer/topcoat or within the topcoat. The interface helps identify cleaning, pretreatment, recoat or cure problems. A pass/fail score without interface observations loses diagnostic value.
Adhesion depends on film and cure. A thick under-cured area may feel soft or print in packaging; a thin area can pass an adhesion cut yet lack qualified coverage. Confirm dry-film map and actual part-temperature cure records for the same batch.
Use supplier-approved cure checks and product tests. Oven setpoint is not proof of part temperature. Thick cast sections and crowded racks can lag, and line stops can overexpose other parts.
Define primary visible faces, secondary visible faces, hidden areas and functional interfaces. Set allowed runs, sags, craters, pinholes, dust, scratches and edge conditions by zone. Functional zones may have stricter no-contamination limits even when they are hidden.
Decorative coating inspection should support consistent visual decisions, but protective and assembly requirements remain separate. A minor hidden color variation may be acceptable while paint on a seal land is not.

Gauge threads, registers, bores, sealing faces and grounding pads after mask removal. Check coating at transition edges and clean internal openings. Run assembly or electrical contact checks specified by the product. A prepaint dimension cannot detect overspray or mask residue.
Record rework because sanding and recoating change total film and appearance. Repaired parts require the same final checks as first-pass parts plus any repair-specific acceptance.
Allow the qualified cure-to-pack time, then package production-intent parts with intended separators, bags, caps and carton density. Challenge vibration, compression, temperature and humidity conditions appropriate to the logistics plan. Inspect contact points for rub, blocking, imprint, color transfer, chips and moisture.
Packaging materials must be compatible with the paint. Foam, films or printed paper can mark a coating under heat and pressure. Avoid part-to-part painted contact. Protect machined and masked zones without trapping contamination.
Define the lot by paint batch, mix, shift, rack, cure load and substrate population as appropriate. Sample critical zones across rack positions and time. A single top-rack part may not represent oven or spray variation. Increase checks after material, gun, mask, oven or rack changes.
The mass-production quality record should link substrate lot, paint materials, preparation, application, cure, inspection, rework and packaging. Trend defects by zone rather than only total reject rate.
Quarantine the affected population and preserve representative parts. Confirm the method and master. Map whether the issue is limited to a rack, zone, mix or time window. Do not average a failed adhesion location with passing color or approve a thin edge because the overall mean thickness passes.
Correct the root cause and revalidate affected characteristics. A color adjustment can change film; a longer cure can change gloss; packaging changes can affect abrasion. Review interactions before release.
Retain part and drawing revision, substrate and paint batch, preparation/pretreatment, mix and application identity, flash/cure record, dry-film map, color/gloss/appearance, adhesion sample, mask and final gauges, rework and packaging result. Identify equipment and masters used.
A production lot is ready when the coating looks correct, remains bonded and cured, leaves functional interfaces usable and survives the approved delivery route. Those conditions should be demonstrated together rather than distributed across unrelated records.
